Hydraulic Service Technician – Port Nelson

Hydraulics pro or skilled mechanic? We want to talk to you.

Hydraulics is a lot more than hoses. You’ll be diagnosing faults, rebuilding pumps, valves and cylinders, and building complete systems that keep boats, harvesters and processing plants running.

At FPS (Fluid Power Solutions), we keep the machinery behind some of Nelson Tasman and Marlborough's key industries running, from marine and aquaculture to forestry, agriculture and industrial. We’re one of New Zealand’s largest specialist hydraulic companies, and we’re looking for another skilled pair of hands to join our Port Nelson team.

The role

This is a hands-on job split between the workshop and the field: servicing, building and repairing hydraulic systems and components for a wide range of customers. Some days you’ll work independently on site; other days you’ll work alongside the team in the workshop. No two weeks look the same.

Learn more from people who know their stuff

Most of our team have been with us for over 10 years, and that says a lot about the kind of place this is. If you already know hydraulics, great. If you’re coming from diesel mechanics or a similar practical trade, we’ll train you on the job alongside some of the most experienced people in the industry, and help take your career further.

You’ll bring:

  • Hydraulics experience, or a mechanical trade background and a willingness to learn

  • Pride in your work and a strong focus on safety

  • Good communication skills and a practical, customer-friendly attitude

  • The confidence to work on your own as well as part of a team

  • A full NZ driver’s licence, plus NZ residency or a valid work visa

What you’ll get

  • A competitive salary based on your skills and experience

  • On-the-job training and real career development through on-the-job learning

  • Variety across marine, aquaculture, forestry, agriculture and industrial work

  • Optional overtime if you want it

  • A close, long-standing team with a strong reputation
