TALLEY’S FISH FACTORY UPGRADE

When Talley’s approached FPS to complete the hydraulics for its fish factory upgrade in Greymouth on the West Coast, the response was ‘no problem.’

Going above and beyond is what FPS is all about.

A team of five staff travelled to Greymouth, working long days and often into the night to complete the week-long job. Chris Gray, FPS sales manager, says the project involved a total “gut out” of the Talley’s Fish Factory, with all the old conveyers, machines and factory equipment being removed before FPS could start work.

“It was a very sizeable project. With the factory shut while the work was carried out, we all worked big hours to get the job done within a tight timeframe. There was a lot of planning involved – we worked closely with other contractors and our Greymouth distributor to make sure the work was completed as quickly as possible so the factory could re-open.”

A Christchurch company supplied the new fish factory equipment while the hydraulics were provided by FPS. The team modified the hydraulic ring main in the roof, refurbished the existing power-pack and fitted a new hydraulic pump, cooler and filtration system. FPS also plumbed all the hydraulic drive motors on the new equipment.

“We’re a large enough firm where we can be flexible and adaptable to provide that sort of service at customers’ sites anywhere in the country and still able to keep the operation running smoothly here in Nelson.”
