FULL STEAM AHEAD ON MACLAB'S NEW MUSSEL HARVESTER

The hydraulic installation of Maclab’s new 36m mussel harvester vessel is all going to plan.

Named Vanguard, the custom-made boat was built by Q-West in Whanganui while FPS designed, built and installed the hydraulics system that runs all the harvesting equipment, seeding equipment, crane, anchor winch, high flow water pump, bow thruster, and steering.

After purchasing all the components in May 2019, the next phase was for the FPS team to travel to Whanganui to install the main hydraulic pipework followed by the tube work. In late November the boat will be ready to be put in the water and FPS will ensure all the hydraulics are commissioned.

The FPS team are proud of their contribution to this project and the sophisticated hydraulic system on Vanguard and look forward to its “smooth sailing” in its workplace on the seas of Nelson Tasman.
